Single Barrel FAQs
Who is eligible to select a single barrel?
Per Georgia and Federal law, we can only sell single barrels directly to our distributors, who sell them to a retailer. If you are an interested retailer, please contact your distributor/sales team or submit the Single Barrel form.
If you are a member of a Whiskey Group or Enthusiast, please fill out the form and include what retailer you would be working with for the purchase.
In full transparency, we have a very limited number of barrels available each year and it will be up to the discretion of our leadership team to make that selection. We want to support those who are supporting the 13th Colony brand!
How many bottles are in a barrel?
It depends on several variables: age, evaporation, leakage, and proof/alcohol by volume. The older the barrel, the less the yield. For example, a 5-6 year barrel normally yields around 25-35 cases.
Do I have to buy the whole barrel?
Yes, we require that the full barrel is purchased.
How much does a barrel cost?
It depends on several factors: age, yield, specialty finishes. But a good rule of thumb would be between $7,000-$12,000 at wholesale.
What proof is a single barrel?
100% of all 13th Colony Single barrels are sold at cask strength, so it depends on the barrel. We have seen proofs from 120 to 149.
How long does the process take?
Please allow up to 60-90 days from the barrel selection to delivery.
What size is the bottle and is there a special label?
All single barrels bottles are 750ml. Each bottle will have a single barrel label that is personalized with our team handwriting in the following information:
– Barrel #
– Bottle #
– Proof
Can I personalize the label?
Each single barrel will have unique information handwritten on the label. We offer the ability to add a small sticker stating “Hand Selected by” with the name of the retail store. 13th Colony requires that any additional items added to the bottle after delivery will not deface the label or cover the product label in any way.
Can I request for 13th Colony to customize the flavor of the barrel?
No, we have a select number of barrels available for the single barrel program each year and they are sold as is.
How many people can attend the selection?
We provide a private tour for up to 6 people.
Can I keep the barrel?
Yes, you can select to have the barrel shipped with the product.
