13th Colony Distilleries has been named Georgia’s most iconic liquor brand by Tasting Table, earning the state’s spot on the national publication’s list of “The Most Iconic Liquor Brand in Every State.”

The list recognizes one spirits brand from each state based on historical significance, cultural importance, national recognition, critical acclaim, regional influence and association with its home state. The selections range from long-established American whiskey names to modern craft distilleries that have helped shape the spirits identity of their regions.

For Georgia, Tasting Table selected 13th Colony, noting the Americus distillery’s history, growth and connection to the state.

“Founded in Americus in 2009, 13th Colony is Georgia’s longest-running distillery since Prohibition,” Tasting Table wrote. The publication also cited the distillery’s “steady growth, robust reputation, and distinctly Southern character,” saying those qualities have “established it as a flagship of Georgia’s spirits industry.”

For 13th Colony President Maxwell Darby, whose father founded the distillery, the recognition is especially meaningful because of the distillery’s deep roots in South Georgia.

“Georgia isn’t just where we make our whiskey. It’s part of who we are and part of what makes our whiskey what it is,” Darby said. “We’re proud to represent our home state on this list. It’s an honor for our founders, our team here in Americus, and everyone who has supported us along the way.”
